Globalization is a familiar term of today, and in our society it is vitally important that our children are globally competitive, as they are competing for careers across the globe against children from every other country of the world. So how do we make our children competitive?
During a recent course on globalization there were a few crucial points observed:
- We need to teach children to learn how to be learners.
- They need to be able to solve problems creatively as well as logically.
- They need to be able to use technology and stay on the forefront of new technologies.
- And they must be able to work as part of a globally diverse team, linked via technology, across the globe.
We Americans are very culturally knowledgeable; however what you notice, as a difference between our education and that of our overseas counterparts is that they tend to be more linguistically versed than ourselves, knowing, often more than one language.
So our central question on this BLOG is how do we prepare our children for the 21st Century?

I'm looking forward to more blog entries...
Thank you for your post. We have started as part of our curriculum, to have a science and technology block (all kept simple, such as coloring pages of computers, etc). We also, expand the use of puzzles, and I particularly like the tangram puzzles. I think they include the use of logic, math and creativity.
I am looking forward to some great inputs from parents.
I would love to see language courses offered somewhere here in Jacksonville for young children. I wish I spoke a second language but I do not. I would love for my children to be exposed to a second language while they are young.
Thank you for all the responses. I think that it is a great idea for our children to learn a second language. When learning a second language, younger is usually better from what I have seen. I personally regret not learning a second language. Talking with people whom speak multiple languages, they tell me once you learn one, other languages become easier to pick-up. If you look at Spanish, this language is related to Italian and Greek (Latin based I suppose). I think we could maybe start introducing the Spanish words with our activities involving words e.g learn colours use the Spanish words also. What do you guys think we could do?
I think adding some Spanish words would be great. I know sometimes you play music for the kids too. Maybe use some CDs with songs in Spanish...I am sure they are out there with kids songs. I know if you could find someone to actually teach kids Spanish I would sign my kids up for that class in an instant!
I think adding Spanish words would be a very easy way to bring in other languages. Thank you for the idea.
